Hello de KK6FJX! My name is Aaron McNany and I’ve been an amateur radio operator since 2013. I’m still a very new Ham and I’m constantly researching and learning. Over the course of the past few years I’ve noticed an absence of quality, in-depth reviews available online for amateur radio equipment. As the kind of guy who likes to find out as much as possible about a product before making a purchase, this has been a problem! ARTech is my project to fill that absence. Let me tell you a little bit about my personal commitments regarding ARTech.
My Big ‘3’
1. Be Honest
ARTech is not intended to be a sales pitch for every product. You will find there are some products who’s reviews are not glowing. I won’t tell you something is great unless I really think it is. Whether you ultimately share my opinion is not the goal–the goal is to provide honest, real information that will aid in your research of a product. At no point will I try to ‘sell’ you something–what you spend your money on is up to you!
2. Be Readable
There are two types of amateur radio reviews which are inconsistently available online at the moment: highly technical expert reviews and overly-simplified customer reviews. While these can be useful for certain people, I personally believe most people want reviews that are readable, understandable, and coherent. I may not provide you with tons of technical test data in my reviews (which, by the way, are usually available on manufacturers’ websites), but I will offer you my real-life, practical experience with each product.
3. Be Helpful
Most importantly, my end goal is to be helpful to you, whether you’ve been on the air for decades or you’re waiting for your first license to come in the mail. If I can help you better navigate the complicated world of ham radio even in the slightest bit, I will feel accomplished! This is why I will keep writing informational and ‘how-to’ styled posts on ham topics, all of which can be found under ‘Resources’ or in the blog. On that note, if you have an idea for a post, review, or anything else, please let me know! I’ll read any comment you leave on the site, or you can shoot me an email on the Contact page.
My Fine Print (which is actually normal-sized print)
There really isn’t a lot of fine print, but in the spirit of my above commitments I want to tell you about the product links that I have throughout the site. Many of these links are ‘affiliate links’, which means that if you click on them and end up buying a product, I’ll receive a commission! It’s all at no extra cost to you, and it really helps me out. Again, and I think this is apparent in my reviews, I will never try to sell you a product–I’m not a salesman. I’m just here to give you the facts. If you do decide to buy a product that I review, however, clicking on one of the links on ARTech will help support me and my family and will keep this site alive! Thanks!
